Thomas Gilpin Windsor Arm Chair
This chair inspired by the work of Thomas Gilpin possesses characteristics of some of the earliest Philadelphian Windsors on record. Gilpin Chairs are some of the earliest branded Windsors known to date, as no other Windsor makers of the early Eighteenth Century appeared to have brand their chairs. His particular style as represented in my work features, tight spiral carved ears on the crest rail. Large unornamented paddle arms, elaborate turned legs and center rung, all set on a large D seat.
Subsequently, the chair is large and stout in stature, meant to suit a medium to large build person.
