When building this chest I wanted to capture the detail and beauty of the high styles associated with 18th Century Philadelphia. The wood on this particular piece featured in figured American Walnut, I had saved for nearly 20 years until I found the appropriate piece on which to use it. All of the elements such as the flame finials, rosettes, and shell carved drawer were done exclusively by hand. As were originals, this piece is comprised of two cases. The bottom drawer of the top case features a small writing desk. Within the chest are six secret drawers. The chest in all took over 500 hours to complete.
